Vintage Cutlery
Vintage Cutlery
Every piece at Maison Spoon starts life as a pre-loved treasure. I hand-pick each item at antique markets across the UK, looking for cutlery with lovely floral details, interesting handles, and a bit of character. It takes time, but that's exactly what makes each piece so special.
Silver-plated and full of history
Unless stated otherwise, all cutlery is vintage and silver-plated, most likely produced in the 20th century. These aren't perfect, brand new pieces. They will have marks and signs of their previous life, which is part of what makes them so charming. If you're looking for something pristine and uniform, this is not for you. But if you love the idea of giving a pre-loved piece a new story, you're in the right place.
Mother of Pearl
The mother of pearl collection features handles made from real vintage mother of pearl. The blades on cheese knives and cake slices have sometimes been reworked in stainless steel, while the butter knives are either silver plate or stainless steel depending on the piece.
Caring for your vintage piece
Hand wash gently with mild soap and dry immediately. Avoid soaking or putting in the dishwasher, as this can affect the silver plating over time. For mother of pearl pieces, take extra care as the handles are delicate and should never be soaked.
Over time, silver-plated pieces may tarnish. This is completely normal and can be easily cleaned with a silver polish such as Town Talk or Silvo. You can also use a foil and baking soda method. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube if you need a guide.
